Projects
The
Mills County Historical Commission is attempting to identify
historically significant older homes and buildings in the county. It
is important to inventory these structures while people are around
who can provide the story behind them.
The MCHC is also involved with the school districts to provide enrichment opportunities in local history. For several years that has included a place in the 6th grade field day program.
Members of the MCHC are mapping and logging burials in county wide cemeteries. These will be essential for the upcoming revisions of the cemetery books.
The MCHC encourages and assists individuals and groups applying for Historical Markers for their community, school, cemetery, or event.
Members research historical events and preserve the story in conjunction with the Mills County Museum.
Our historical essay contest for graduating seniors encourages and rewards inquiry into local history.
